Health Management Information System (HMIS)
Health Management Information System (HMIS) under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) has its significance in terms of assessing the progress, quantifying output as well as outcome of interventions and decision making as well. Generated, compiled and collected data at various levels across variety of programmes under NHRM provides the base for corrective action (s), decision making for the health functionaries and programme managers. Thus development and operationalization of effective HMIS at all levels is an important prerequisite for achieving NRHM objectives and goals. In view of the geographical spread, prevailing socio-cultural milieu, the population & the coverage of beneficiaries in the state of Meghalaya, establishing a robust HMIS poses a challenge at all levels. Nevertheless, the existing system of recording and reporting of data including use of web based MIS software, has made substantial progress, thereby helped in timely and regular reporting of data at various levels.
The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India, New Delhi introduced the HMIS reporting formats along with its computerized software all over country. In year 2009, the state of Meghalaya implemented and operationalised these revised reporting formats provided by the ministry.
